Why I Founded Vikaraa: Finance Transformation Begins Long Before Technology
After more than two decades in finance, working within global banking institutions and later helping build a finance function from the ground up in a high-growth startup-I came to one conclusion that has shaped my career: finance transformation is not the same as system integration.
Across organizations of every size, I observed a pattern that appeared far too often. A business identified an operational bottleneck, invested in new technology, accelerated implementation, and expected the software to solve the problem. Finance was then asked to adapt to a system that had been configured before the business had fully defined how it wanted to operate.
Technology is an extraordinary enabler, but it cannot compensate for unclear ownership, inconsistent processes, or operating models that have not evolved with the business. When those foundations are overlooked, organizations often automate inefficiency rather than eliminate it.
That realization is why I founded Vikaraa.
To me, finance transformation is a strategic business discipline. It is about building a finance organization that is scalable, resilient, audit-ready, and capable of supporting better decisions as a company grows. Technology plays a critical role, but only after people and processes have been aligned.
The sequence matters. Sustainable transformation begins with understanding how Finance creates value, how information flows through the organization, how decisions are made, and where risks truly exist. Only then should technology be designed to support those objectives.
This philosophy also shapes how Vikaraa works with clients. Rather than operating as an external advisor who delivers recommendations and moves on, we become an extension of the Finance organization. We work alongside finance leaders to understand their operating model, refine processes, prepare teams for change, and implement technology that can evolve with the business—not constrain it.
For me, transformation has never been about implementing software faster. It is about helping organizations build finance functions that remain effective long after an implementation is complete. The true measure of success is not a successful go-live; it is whether Finance is stronger, more agile, and better equipped to support the business years later.
Long before my career in finance, I trained in Odissi classical dance, where discipline and fluidity are not opposites; they depend on one another. That lesson continues to influence my leadership philosophy today. Strong governance and internal controls require rigor, while growing businesses require adaptability. I call that balance rigor and grace, and it is the standard I bring to every Vikaraa engagement.
Finance deserves to be treated as a strategic partner, not simply the recipient of new technology. When organizations begin with people, strengthen their processes, and then enable both with technology, transformation becomes sustainable rather than disruptive.
That is why I founded Vikaraa.
